My Thoughts on Revolutionary Road
As far as I can remember, I saw the trailer for Revolutionary Road a few weeks ago, and thought it sounded like a good story.
Tonight, my uncle and I were trying to decide on a film to see. There were a bunch of war ones, a bunch I hadn’t heard of, Grand Turino, and Yes Man.
I thought about seeing Yes Man again because I loved it a first time, but then we noticed the movie poster for Revolutionary Road. It was mostly white and thus looked like it was aimed towards females and involved the theme of love.
My analysis of the movie poster was slightly wrong. It was probably geared more towards females, but I enjoyed the story as much as I believed I would when I saw the trailer; the plot was fantastic.
At the beginning of the film I felt like I was watching an intermediate acting class; the interaction between Leonardo DiCaprio’s character and Kate Winslet’s character didn’t feel real. This feeling slowly died off after the first ~40 minutes, but in moments I still felt like I was in an acting class. This could either be just the way the film was directed, or because I’ve been studying/analysing acting for so long that I expect more.
Nonetheless, I could relate to the story of wanting something different out of life. One such difference is the topics I discussed in my Changing The Rules post, last week. The standard “marriage, kids, house” idea is appealing, but let’s change it up a little bit, hey?
The overall film was great. I feel the best character in the film is John Givings (played by Michael Shannon). Sorry, I can’t see any of the other actors receiving awards for their performances.
I don’t care for awards much anyway. “OOooo.. they won. It must be good!”
Oh, and for those pervs out there, there were a few sex scenes. Funny thing is, you get to see the entire length of each sex scene. All sixty seconds or less. I laughed when it was over so quickly. No nudity at all. So funny!
