The Art of ReTweeting

ReTweets — explained here by Kevin Rose — are increasingly appearing in my Twitter feed.

I’ve made a quick video explaining the art of retweeting and how you DON’T need to add the word ReTweet or its abbreviation RT. Below the video you’ll find some perfect examples of ReTweets.

Just after I made that video I found some perfectly re-worded tweets that acted just like a “ReTweet”.

Justine twittered:
Auctioning a signed (or not) iPod nano off for charity water!! PLUS, I’ll make you a custom video :) Bid now! http://bit.ly/OiYNO 11:45 AM Feb 12th 2008 from web

Karen retweeted:
Wanna get a maybe-signed iPod from@ijustine? How about a custom video too? Yes. You want it. http://bit.ly/OiYNO 12:25 PM Feb 12th 2009 from Tweetie in reply to ijustine

Note how Karen got creative with the rewording of Justine’s tweet? That is perfect!

Here’s another example to emphasise my point:

Gary tweeted:
I HAVE the LINK! from todays TODAY SHOW http://tinyurl.com/bo76m6 9:32 AM Feb 13th 2009 from web

AJ retweeted:
Big bro did a great job this morning on the Today Show, if you want to watch, check it here: http://tinyurl.com/bo76m6 9:35 AM Feb 13th 2009 from web

In summary, just remember my rules:
- Don’t ReTweet everything.
- If someone asks you to ReTweet something, don’t feel bad for not doing so.
- If you’re going to ReTweet, don’t use the word ReTweet or its abbreviation RT and reword your ReTweet.
