Image Overlays
I often get these epiphanies in which a great idea or invention forms in my mind. Usually these ideas are far out of my field of expertise and thus it’s difficult for me to act on them. Thus, I have decided to share them whenever they come to mind. Obviously, I’m sure I’m not the first person to think of these ideas, but I feel if I get them out there, then someone whom has the expertise to act on them will do so.
As I was editing the screenshot on my last post (with dark and light areas) I thought that it would be a cool idea if they layers in the image could be viewable on the web.
For instance, any web user could over their cursor over the image and a set of tools would overlay the image. Simple (or advanced) tools which could hide any of the layers just like you would be able to do in image editing software.
I know this kind of technology is around already, but it’s either AJAX or Flash. What if you could upload a .psd (Photoshop Document) format image and it just works natively in the browser. Or even a web version of .psd; perhaps .pswd (Photoshop Web Document). Or — even better — an open-source format that image editing software can export to.
The files would be small, but still have some layer information in them. The viewer wouldn’t be able to edit (unless the website/blog allows it); just hide/show layers.
I guarantee you’ll see this available on the web in a few years.
