I need an online calendar that supports multiple timezones
Every time I go to Google Calendar (gCal) it asks me if I want to change my default timezone to US Central Time. I don’t click ‘yes’ or ‘no’ because I don’t want it to mess up all my past and future calendar entries.
My current calendar workflow is as follows:
- I enter in data on Google Calendar (I have multiple calendars within my gCal).
- I subscribe to those calendars in iCal.
- I sync my iCal with my iPhone.
This worked fine until I realised the other day that Google Calendar doesn’t support multiple timezones. My gCal timezone is set to Sydney/Canberra (GMT/UTC +10). If I change it to Central Time (GMT/UTC -6), then it will take 16 hours off the times that are entered on my calendar(s). This does not affect calendar entries that last ‘all day’ — E.g., birthdays, holidays.
I realise that most calendars (online and offline) support timezones, but all the ones I’ve looked at (including 30 boxes, Yahoo! Calendar, BusyCal, and others) don’t support choosing a timezone for each calendar entry. Furthermore, if I had an event in Sydney at 2 p.m. AEST, then it would say ‘[Event name] at 2 p.m. AEST’ — not just ‘[Event name] at 2 p.m.’.
I’ve seen many people requesting this exact feature on the Google Calendar support forums for over a year, but it hasn’t even been addressed as a Labs feature or anything.
If anyone knows of an online calendar service/app that will sync correctly with my iCal and iPhone, then please suggest it to me in the comments.
I’d prefer something that’s free, but I’d also be happy to pay a few bucks for something that works the way I want it too.
