Review: Iron Man 2
When the first Iron Man movie was released I never went to see it. This may shock you, but I’m not a big comic book fanatic like many of my fellow geek friends are; when I was a younger I read Goosebumps, The Babysitter’s Club, and Garfield (in the newspaper).
Movie-wise, these days I’m interested in more meaningful or thought-provoking movies rather than a ‘I-don’t-have-to-think’ brain-mush of action provided in a visual form. Remember, Avatar didn’t do much for me.
For the past couple of weeks Twitter has been a-flutter with my friends ecstatic about the new Iron Man film while I had no intention in seeing it. Usually I prefer to see films in sequential order — like most people. That is, if I’m interested in the film.
Last night I went out to Studio Movie Grill with Amanda, Jake, and Rachel. We went to see Iron Man 2 because the others had seen the original film and were excited for this new one. I wasn’t fussed because I don’t usually go to the movies unless it’s to spend time with friends and family; $10-$20 (remember, movies are expensive in Australia). Plus, Movie Taverns (movie cinema with a full restaurant menu) are awesome! Australians are missing out on the awesomeness of movie taverns!
On the car ride to the cinema Rachel gave me a brief summary of what occurred in the first Iron Man movie. Cool. Now I’m ready to see Iron Man 2. Still, I had no expectations (good or bad) going in to it.
Around half-way through the film I pulled myself out of the movie screen and realised I was genuinely interested in ‘what’s going to happen next?’. That said, my heart wasn’t really racing or anything. I was just interested in the awesomeness of Iron Man’s technologies; at one point he used a device which looked like a small version of the Large Hadron Collider. He sure has some radical gadgets and devices which I’m sure will be available in reality in a few years.
So what did I think of Iron Man 2? Exactly, what I said above: the technologies are cool, but I wouldn’t consider it a must-see, or something that will change my thoughts on life.
